Hawaii Sunscreen Ban
The ocean is such a big part of our world, and not to mention what we do here at Na Pali Pirates. It is super important to us to take care of the ocean which we operate our daily tours and the marine life that live in it. With that being said, there is something that we can do to help prevent our reef and marine life any further damage! Choose carefully which sunscreens you buy!
Beginning in January 2021, sunscreens containing the chemicals oxybenzone and octinoxate will be banned in the state of Hawaii. These chemicals have been proved to destroy coral reefs, even a small drop is enough to damage corals. Back in 2015, it was estimated that about 14,000 tons of sunscreen and lotion end up in corals reefs around the world each year. Sunscreens such as Hawaiian Tropic, Coppertone, and Banana Boat will not available for purchase. Why not start now and choose to save our reefs by choosing sunscreens that are reef safe!
